Two landscapes in a room . Canvases show the separation we have

in this modern world from our environment. Children go to

school and watch cartoons never understanding the impact

the of the Mississippi River or importance of the levees.


Hurricane Katrina was a testament to the fragility of this incredible area.

My school in New Orleans closed for a year after Hurricane Katrina. The city was brown. When I started driving to my new school in Norco, I was amazed with the natural beauty of the South Louisiana wetlands.

When I was a little girl, Spider Lilies and purple Iris grew in the ditch alongside our driveway. In French, fleur means "flower", and lis means "lily".The Fleur De Lis design has been used for centuries. In early Christian art the white lily was symbolic of the “Madonna”. There is an old Chinese Proverb:“When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other.“

Louisiana people love to cook, whether it is a tailgate or parade or party. A fishing camp on the bayou or a hunting camp is a treasured place. The recipes aren’t authentic without the trinity of Creole ingredients, and each chef has their favorite ingredients for their dish.

My Great grandfather traveled all the bayous of South Louisiana ESTIMATING timber 1890-1925. He had his dog and a staff, but He never killed a snake.

A block long canopied path created by a double row of Live Oak trees highlights the view of the Sugarcane Plantation inVacherie called Oak Alley. This beautiful home with Magnolias represents a time long gone in Louisiana. Enslaved Negroes cultivated the crops. The architecture and landscaping is gorgeous, but nothing eradicates the pain of the souls of the past.

mimi was born in New Orleans during the rush to the

suburbs after WWII.

Her mother could trace her ancestors back to

original land grant settlers along

the Mississippi River in the ' German Coast '.

Her mama's blood is Cajun. but falling in love

with a guy from the Irish Channel

made mimi half 'Yat'.


Madeleine's lived in Las Vegas and New Orleans,

traveled to Central America and India,

taught fine art and commercial art

to children and adults.


IN 1989 she was inspired to help the at-risk, inner city

teens of her school. She became a founding partner

of young aspirations/young artists, YA/YA, INC.


Madeleine chooses to reject the artificial and

technical in her paintings.

True art is an expression of time and place....
